COME TO THE WATER

Picture
Scripture textPsalm 34:8 – “8O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

“Come to the Water”                      by: The Kingsmen

There’s a spring of living water

                                                 Flowing from a vast supply

You can drink when you are thirsty

For it never shall run dry.

CHORUS                                 Come to the life giving water

Where the soul shall never die

                                                 Soothing streams of living water

Cleanse the heart and bring new life.

Like the woman at the well

                                                 You drink the water

Yet you feel so parched and dry

                                                 Jesus is the living water

                                                 Come to Him, He’ll satisfy.

BRIDGE                                   Come to the water

                                                 It brings new life

                                                 Come to the water.

I am sure that everybody here has been a little hungry and a little thirsty before concerning wanting some food to eat or some water to drink. Isn’t it also true that after you got something to eat and drink that after a certain amount of time you got that same hunger and thirst back? This is an example of physical hunger and thirst. No living thing can survive without food and water. If you never received food and water you would die. This is the same way when it comes to spiritual things. Our spirit needs spiritual nourishment with the bread and water of life. There are 2 examples of this in the Word of God. One example is in John 4:13-14 – “13Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” Jesus is saying here that He is the water of life and if you are thirsty, He will quench your thirsting spirit.

Just like in Revelation 22:17 – “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

Jesus wants you to come and drink of the water that gives new life. Jesus does not want anyone to die lost just like it says in 2 Peter 3:9 – “9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness: but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

If you come to repentance and give you heart to God, He will fill you with the Holy Ghost and quench your thirsting spirit. The other example is found in John 6:50-51 – “50This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life for the world.” Again here Jesus is saying that he is the bread of life and if you come to Him, He will feed your hungry spirit with blessings falling like the manna of bread did in Exodus 16:4 – “4Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them whether they will walk in my law, or no.” And in Exodus 16:15 – “15And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.”

So if there is an empty place in your heart, Jesus can fill that empty place with the bread and water of life. Before I came to God, I had a big empty place in my heart, and I was worried about my situation in going to heaven. I did not feel comfortable that the way I was living and where I was going to church was going to be good enough for me to make heaven. Then in 1995, I went to my first UPC church, and when I got the Holy Ghost at Church Camp that summer, I felt that empty place in my heart fill up with the bread and water of life. Now I can truly say that I’ve been blessed with a manna of blessings ever since then. Jesus does love us all and he proved it by giving His life so that we could be saved.

When Jesus said in John 6:51 that the bread He will give is His flesh, which He will give for the life of the world, He was prophesying that He would die on the cross for us. So He showed us that He loves us like it says in John 15:13 – “13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

What a friend we have in Jesus. Just like it says in Proverbs 18:24 – “24A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

And that friend is Jesus. So if you ever feel that you are all alone, you’re not alone, Jesus is with you. So if you want this great friend and you are hungry for the bread of life and you are thirsty for the water of life, just obey Peter’s 3 simple steps found in Acts 2:38 – “38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Jesus promised He would give us this gift in the next verse Acts 2:39 – “39For the promise is unto you and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

And as Jesus says in Acts 1:8 – “8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

So come to the life giving water and receive everlasting life forevermore.
